Single Slice Compressor

Single Slice Compressor is a tube-based VCA (voltage-controlled amplifier) compressor design. The goal in the design wasn’t to completely squish the sound into oblivion, but to provide a gentler squeeze to fatten the sound and control dynamics. Single Slice was designed for bass so it has a lovely low frequency response, but the mids and highs were kept in tact so it works equally as well on guitar. Manipulating the Attack and Sensitivity controls can provide a wide variety of tones, from subtle to more aggressive. The option of a clean blend, with the ability to go from full dry to full wet and everywhere in between, gives great flexibility for parallel compression as well.

Single Slice is true bypass and comes stock with a 12AU7 (ECC82) tube. Input impedance is 5.6MΩ, but can be modified to suit individual needs. Please contact for details before ordering if you need a different input impedance.

Brief description of the controls:

COMP – compression; effectively controls the sustain or release time of the signal. Counterclockwise will be shorter sustain, clockwise will be longer.

OUTPUT – master volume; behaves differently from an input volume control as it does not affect the operation of the compression itself, just how loud it is coming out the end.

SENS – sensitivity; sets the sensitivity threshold level for the compression.

ATTACK – sets the attack time of the compression. Counterclockwise is faster, clockwise is slower.

BLEND – blends the dry/unaffected signal with the compressed/affected signal. Full counterclockwise is 100% unaffected, full clockwise is 100% affected.

As a tube pedal, the Single Slice Compressor requires a high amount of current to operate correctly. I recommend a 9-12VDC power supply capable of delivering at least 400mA. Using less than this can damage the power supply and/or the pedal.
